Painting idea carnival party

Malidee: Faschingsgesellschaft

Idea and execution: Johanna Schneider
In this project, we work with stencils to create a picture that consists mainly of glowing surfaces and requires only a few lines.

Priming the sky and ground and preparing the flag stencil
Step 1

First, prime the sky and the ground with Seccorell Finger smudge pastels. Then make a stencil for the colorful flags.

Painting flags with a stencil and various color powders
Step 2

The stencil can be repeated wonderfully. You can use the entire banner or just individual flags. Rub in different color powders alternately to create a colorful variety.

Connecting the flags and sketching the carnival figures
Step 3

Connect the flags with a line. Then lightly indicate the outlines of the carnival figures with the color sticks. Fill all surfaces afterwards using the typical Finger smudging technique.

Using circle stencils for balloons and costume details
Step 4

Now two more stencils are used: a large circle for balloons and a small circle for costume details. Layer different colors on top of each other to create vibrant mixed colors on the paper.

Erasing lights, drawing details and finishing the background
Step 5

Work 'lights' into the balloons and snowflakes into the background with the eraser. Paint shadows with blue, violet, and black. Trace details such as faces and strings finely with the color sticks and the carnival party is finished!
